The database contains more than 30,000 images used for teaching and learning in the Art History Department. The resource is under development with further addition of images each year. Many of these images have been digitised from slides sourced from the Visual Resources Centre in the Department of Art History. In addition there are images obtained from approved on-line sources, images from artists' and academics' personal collections, which have been reproduced with their permission. The reproductions supplied in this database are usually second or third generation and it is acknowledged that quality often varies and may not be true to the original artwork. Work is ongoing to improve quality of images and data and also to expand the scope and content of the digital collection. Please use the contact form to supply comments, corrections and new information.
A kaitiakitanga/guardianship role exists to protect the cultural integrity of the database content. Please be mindful that the database includes an ancestral component involving images of Tupuna and Taonga tuku iho. This material has special significance, which should be acknowledged and respected. Additional information to provide context and accuracy is valued. Please use the contact form to supply comments, corrections and new information. Kia ora.
