Keith Sinclair was Professor of History at the University of Auckland from 1963 to 1987. His other works include The Origins of the Maori Wars, 1957, A Destiny Apart : New Zealand’s Search for National Identity, 1986, and the seminal History of New Zealand, 1959, which is still in print.
